    How To Get An International Student Loan for Pakistani Students

    The cost of studying in the United States is a concern for all overseas students. Private colleges can charge up to $75,000 per year, whereas public schools charge roughly $50,000 per year. Federal loans are popular among students studying in the United States, but they are not available to Pakistani or other foreign citizens; instead, they can qualify for an International Student Loan.

    Various banks and other institutions that provide loans to study abroad are as follows

    Bank Alfalah

    Bank Alfalah provides loans for Pakistani students who are willing to study abroad with a loan. Bank Alfalah provides an amount of about 70,000 USD or equivalent in the required currency annually. This amount is provided to cover the – tuition fee, living expenses, and application charges.

    The Pakistani student must submit all the required documents to any branch of Bank Alfalah in Pakistan and receive the Loan.

    Habib Bank ltd

    The bank provides a loan sum money against a fixed deposited amount for the Pakistani student to study abroad. The bank provides a low-interest-based loan for Pakistani students for studies at a foreign university.


    Partnering with LUMS, MCB has a good news for candidates hoping to get their MBA from the university. The defined age group for the opportunity is 21 to 45. To get this loan, you need to have 50% marks in the last degree exam, and LUMS should confirm this in writing. Otherwise, you will stand ineligible for the said scholarship.

    JS Bank

    With JS bank, you can not only dream of acquiring higher studies in local universities but also abroad. The bank offers up to $70,000 for scholarships per student, for one calendar year. Of course, that means the desired university should be an accredited one.

    Admission charges can also be included in the scholarship, and there is no limit to how many universities you apply to. However, all such applications should have documentary evidence to support them. The scholarship includes tuition fee, living expenses, as well as miscellaneous expenses such as health, insurance, union sports, library fees, etc.

    National Bank of Pakistan (NBP)

    The Government of Pakistan has collaborated with prominent banks in Pakistan including NBP, HBL, MCB, and UBL to provide students financial assistance through a student loan scheme (SLS).

    The NBP is currently in charge of SLS and provides students with loans without any interest. Students who meet the requirements can apply for the loan, which will either be paid to the students or the university.

    The students who avail the loan will have to repay it back in a 10-year duration that will begin a year after they’ve graduated or 6 months into employment.

    Application Criteria:

    • Students must have at least 70% marks in their recent exams.
    • The applying student must get admission to a public sector university that covers the following area of study including Engineering, Electronics, Mathematics, Physics, Medicine, Computer Sciences, Natural Sciences, Business Studies, Chemical Technology, Agriculture, Chemistry and Islamic Jurisprudence.
    • The student in need of loan must be 21 years old or younger for bachelor programs and 31 years or younger for master’s programs.
    • The student must be 36 years old or younger to apply for Ph.D. programs.


    To qualify for a loan international students must attend an eligible school in the US or Canada. You must also be enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student and pursue a degree, certificate, or license.

    Co-Signer Required for Most Applicants

    Most Pakistani students need a cosigner to apply for an international student loan. The cosigner must be a US citizen or permanent resident, with good credit and who has lived in the USA for the past 2 years. Learn more about how to find a cosigner.     What Student Loans Cover

    International students can apply for a loan for up to their school’s total cost of attendance, as determined by the school, minus any other aid received. The total cost of attendance includes tuition, room and board, and expenses related to education such as books and transportation, as well as living expenses.
