China Scholarships For International Students 2022

Have you been wondering how to receive a China scholarship? This page lists current China Scholarships For International Students 2022-2023. Some of these international scholarships are fully financed, while others are partially sponsored for both postgraduate and undergraduate studies at the following levels: bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, doctorate, fellowship, and so on. The majority of these scholarships are supported primarily by Chinese universities, the Chinese government, and private institutions around the world.

There are many types of scholarships available to all international students who wish to pursue university studies. Here’s our list of top scholarships to study in China.

What type of Scholarships are available to study in China?

There are three most popular scholarships to study in Chinese universities:

    1. Chinese Government Scholarships
    2. Scholarships from the Provincial Governments of China
    3. Confucius Institute Scholarships (governmental entity for the teaching of the Chinese language to foreigners)

These scholarships in China are universal. Citizens of almost all countries can apply for these scholarships, depending on educational agreements between countries. These scholarships do not have many application requirements. Because of the expensive university education in the eastern country, these economic endowments are quite generous.

Which type of Chinese Scholarship is suitable for me?

This is a difficult question. The first question you must answer is, “What are you going to study?” You basically have two choices: study Chinese language (which will earn you a university diploma of advanced studies) or pursue a degree (Bachelor’s Degree, Master of Science, or PhD). Then you must consider which city you wish to study in, as this will also influence the selection of your scholarship.

To give you an idea, the organizations that provide the scholarships have partnerships with various universities across the country (in China everything belongs or is connected in some way to the government). After all, the government entity includes both the elements of the government that give scholarships, such as the Confucius Institute and the numerous institutions.

These agreements result in a number of scholarship quotas that each financier distributes to each university based on the type of course. Students from various nations are entitled to apply for Chinese government scholarships, resulting in intense competition.

That is why, once you have decided what you want to study and in which city or university you want to study, you must explore the following criteria university by university:

  1. If they offer scholarships to study what you want (master’s degree, Chinese course, etc.)
  2. How many scholarships each does entity grant to the type of course you choose?

The research can be done online, but not all colleges have made this information available on their websites (particularly in the English edition), therefore I recommend contacting them personally via email. And this sweep is definitely necessary if you want to receive scholarships to fund your studies in China.

Scholarships to Learn the Chinese Language in China

Many foreigners attend Chinese courses at Chinese universities. If you already learn the language in your own country, this is a fantastic idea. You will see that your level increases exponentially, as opposed to the minor gains that are occasionally witnessed in your city. If you have never studied Chinese before, this is an excellent opportunity to determine if you enjoy it and have aptitudes for it. Friends who spent a year learning Chinese in China know more than I did in five years in the UK. That obviously depends on you.

The three scholarships described in the preceding section admit Chinese language students, with the Confucius Institute scholarship being the most geared toward this aim (it also offers grants for doctoral students and researchers, but they are not very popular). This scholarship, however, demands that you have already studied Chinese at one of the innumerable subsidiaries that exist around the world.

Scholarships for Undergraduate or Postgraduate Studies in China

Many people choose to study in China, whether for an undergraduate, master’s, or PhD degree in Chinese or English. In this scenario, as in the last one, you must first study whether institutions offer your desired subject and, second, determine whether such universities give government scholarships to students (national or provincial).

Once this is established, contact the university to learn how many students have been admitted to both the Chinese government scholarship and the provincial government scholarship (this specific information is difficult to find on the internet). It is worth noting at this point that there are two ways to apply for the Chinese government scholarship (national). The first is through approved agencies (essentially the Chinese embassy in your country or some international organizations in your region of membership, such as the European Union, etc.), and the second is through the destination university directly.

Both channels have the authority to award Chinese government scholarships, and each has a separate scholarship quota. Furthermore, if you apply, say, through the Chinese consulate in your country, you will only be competing with students of your own nationality. If, on the other hand, you opt to apply for this scholarship directly at the destination university, you will be competing with students from all over the world because the university accepts applications from all five continents. Because of this, and because the scholarship quota provided directly by the university is lower, obtaining the Chinese government scholarship is more difficult if you take this path (if you are already in China, for example).
